1996 Eagle Talon AWD for sale.

This is a ‘one family’ vehicle and has been garaged a majority its life. It currently has 131K miles on the chassis, and 16K on the engine. Over the last 5 years I have modified it for higher performance, but kept it mostly stock cosmetically. It has a number of hard to find and unique parts installed as well, and is set up to run on both 91 octane gas and E85 ethanol.

The paint color is factory Wineberry, and the body has a few small dents, dings, chips, and scratches, as shown in the photos, and the clearcoat on the rear spoiler is oxidizing a bit. Both front fenders have been replaced over the years, but there is no unibody damage underneath. In the last couple of years I converted the front end to the late 2g Eclipse style with a stock bumper cover and genuine factory black-housing headlights, and tinted the side marker lights to help hide them in the bumper. The headlight have modified high-beam bulbs in the low beam location for a little better light output, and the headlight lenses have been refinished with the 3M Headlight restoration kit. It also has a newer windshield. The car has always been kept at stock height and has suffered no underbody damage, and still rides smoothly on the stock suspension. The car is certainly not perfect cosmetically, as it was my DD for years, but it's in pretty good shape overall.

The interior is gray with factory leather seats, with the power driver’s seat. The front seats show some wear and cracking, and the driver’s has a small puncture near the rear/side of the seat bottom bolster, but the rest of the interior is in very good condition. The rear cargo cover is intact, headliner is not torn or sagging, and the carpet is in good shape with the exception of a few stains. Factory floor mats are included, but the driver’s is worn through at the heel. The dash is in excellent condition, is not cracked, and the airbag cover is not warped. The stereo is also the factory unit, but the CD player stopped working years ago. The cassette player and tuner still work, and I just run my iPod through a cassette converter. The sunroof works and does not leak. The factory alarm and remote door locking functions do not work due to broken electrical connections inside the doors (I still have the factory key fob somewhere, though, if you want to have the system repaired). Overall the interior is very clean.

The car was serviced locally by Peak Auto Service until the summer of ’05, when the factory turbo finally blew at 96K miles. I then took it to Jack, and his shop has performed any work since then that I could not do myself. The motor was rebuilt in September ’08, and has about 16K miles on it at this time. I have spent a lot of time and energy building up the performance of this car, and have not cobbled it together haphazardly, but taken care to make sure what’s done is done well. It’s not the fastest/quickest DSM in town, but it’s a lot of fun. I dyno’d it at Revolutions Performance in March ‘10 (on the “Heartbreaker” dyno), and it made 328WHP and 361WTQ on E85, an Evo3 16g turbo, and SMIC. It also ran the quarter mile in 12.7sec at 109mph on the same turbo setup. It now has a freshly rebuilt PTE5027e 50-trim turbo and an FMIC. I have not dyno’d it yet, but from airflow readings I’d guesstimate about 375whp right now. I have a bunch of receipts for the work performed and parts installed over the years that will go with the car, including the original factory window sticker.

Here’s a list of the modifications and what’s selling with the car:

 7-bolt engine rebuilt Sept ’08 with 1g rods and 2g pistons
 Delta 264 in/ex cams (HKS copies)
 Kevlar balance shaft belt and Mitsu OEM timing belt
 ’91 Turbo DSM throttle body, recently cleaned ultrasonically
 EVO3 intake manifold with EGR blockoff, recently bead blasted and clearcoated
 EVO3 exhaust manifold, machine ported at the turbo flange
 PTE 5027e 50-trim turbo, rebuilt April ’10, no shaft play, set up for external wastegate on O2 housing, turbine housing ported at the WG passage for better flow
 Tubular recirculated O2 housing (originally a Punishment racing piece), converted for use with a 38mm wastegate
 Genuine Tial 38mm external wastegate, large blue spring included
 New Mitsu multilayer 7cm^2 turbo to exhaust manifold gasket
 950cc FIC injectors
 255HP Walbro intank pump, Rewired
 Aeromotive AFPR
 Powdercoated valve cover
 K&N cone filter on adapter for the stock MAS
 Cold air box around filter, and a fresh air draw from the former stock SMIC location
 Dejon Powerhouse compressor intake pipe, powdercoated maroon
 New and recently installed CXRacing FMIC, intercooler core painted flat black, pipes are polished aluminum
 Genuine Greddy Type RS BOV ( I have both springs, larger one currently installed)
 Dejon manual boost controller
 3” Downpipe with no catalytic converter, necking down to mate with the stock cat-back exhaust; the downpipe has a 3” electric cutout welded in about a foot below the turbo for wide open flow; this allows the exhaust to be nice and quiet (and stock looking) for driving around town and longer trips, but at the flip of a switch under the dash it can flow fully unrestricted.
 Stock catback/resonators/muffler, chrome tips still look nice and don’t give the car’s performance away at first glance
 ACT2600 Pressure Plate and ACT 4-Puck solid hub disc (disc new 6/09)
 New OEM Mitsubishi clutch master and slave cylinders June ‘10
 The ECU has a custom Dual Image eprom chip from Keydiver with all the Stage 3 features included as well; it allows the car to be run on both E85 ethanol and 91 octane gasoline, and it has different fuel/timing maps to optimize performance on either fuel. There is a keyed switch on the lower dash to allow for the changeover from one fuel to the other, and an LED indicator that illuminates when it’s set for e85. Keydiver website: http://www.dsmchips.com/index.php . I will also include the factory chip if you need to return the car to stock for any reason.
 SAFC-I for fine tuning the fuel, hidden in the glovebox
 Palm IIIxe data logger with OBD2 cable
 Powerslot front rotors
 Porterfield R4-S brake pads up front, about half worn (these are great pads and a huge upgrade over stock…they grip harder the hotter they get); parts-store semi metallic pads out back, new in May ‘10
 Stainless braided brake lines all around
 RMDSM front and rear sway bars
 Front upper strut bar
 2 sets of wheels and tires: Summer wheels are lightweight BSA Racing (sold as Rage Racing through Discount Tire) 10 spoke wheels in excellent condition, weighing aprox 15lbs each, with almost-new Sumitomo HTR ZII summer-only tires mounted (they still have the little nubs on the sidewall); Winter wheels are Prime 3 spoke with plenty of curb rash and a worn out set of Kumho Exsta ASX tires mounted on them
 Springs and shocks are stock
 Newer Duralast Gold battery (apx 2 years old)
 Car is hard-wired (on a switched circuit) for a Valentine One radar detector, wiring exits at the rear view mirror at the top of the windshield (Detector NOT included)
 Slim fan in place of the original A/C condenser fan; wired to run with radiator fan
 Brad Penn 10/40 synthetic blend oil (excellent for use with e85 fuel), changed every 2500 miles
 Autometer dual gauge pod in the factory gauge bezel location
 VDO 0-30psi boost gauge, black face, wired into the dash lighting dimmer switch
 AEM UEGO wideband o2 gauge
 Minor wire tuck across top of intake manifold to hide injector harness
 Air conditioning system disabled/partially removed (I have all the parts for reinstallation)

Not functioning but intact:
 ABS: The pump had a habit of running intermittently after the car was shut off, thereby draining the battery, so I pulled the main fuse for the ABS system. The ABS dash warning light is constantly illuminated as a side effect. Not a big concern to me so I didn’t look into repairing it.

This is an excellent car in good cosmetic condition. I am selling because I’ve owned DSMs for almost 15 years and it’s time to try something else... all my friends think I'm crazy, though, because it's in such great shape and is a blast to drive. Title is free and clear of any lien.

I am asking $6900 or best reasonable offer, and I don’t need to sell so lowballing will get you nowhere lol. I will also consider a trade for a swapped Datsun 510 or original-ish 240Z, Mazda Miata (depending on condition and modifications), or any other interesting sports car that’s rear- or all-wheel-drive.

My phone number is 719-359-3281, and you can call or text. Email is studio@matthewdesigns.com and I check it pretty regularly.

Thanks for looking!

Bump for new info and price drop. $5900 obo

Radiator was recently fully cleaned/tanked, and slimfan rewired as I think it was not running all the time.

Car now needs some attention to the clutch, as it's dragging above 4500rpm. It's always dragged slightly above 6500rmp (thank you single disc clutch), but now it's happening at a lower rpm. I readjusted it with no effect, then I put the car on a lift and peeked at the PP fingers through the fork opening, and I didn't see any bent/broken fingers on it, so I'm assuming it's a clutch disc issue. I will include a new ACT 4 puck solid hub disc with the sale. Still shifts smoothly below 4500rpm, no grinding, etc...just no high rpm shifting until a new disc gets swapped in.

A fantastic deal now for anyone who can R&R the trans in this car...I just don't have the motivation to do it at this point.

Wow Matt, this is crazy. Kind of like what I'm doing. I cant afford to work on these things anymore. Im going to get me a street bike and call it good for my speed fix. I still have most of the car, hard for me to part it out. Good luck on the sale, its a great car.

$5300 cash, Firm. If it doesn't sell at this price I'm painting the bumper, pulling the trans to upgrade it, and replacing the clutch. Then it's mine for another year or yours for more money lol.
